Iligan Waterfalls A Miracle Of Nature!
Iligan waterfalls --- not just one, two, or three but a whopping 23 falls located right in the city's backyard.
Where can you find a metropolitan city with waterfalls within the city bounds?
Ask any person from the Philippines if they know of one waterfall, and each and every one of them will answer: The Maria Cristina Falls. You see, the Maria Cristina falls is the Philippines’ most majestic waterfall.
It also powers the island of Mindanao. Split into two just right at the brink’s so convenient that getting there is no hassle at all.
To get there, you can always take a jeepney or a taxi, or a private vehicle to the National Power Corporation’s Agus 6 and 7.
Since the power of the Maria Cristina falls is being harnessed for electricity, the best day to experience its grandeur is on Sundays from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
Found in Barangay Rogongon, 27 kms by jeepney is the Philippines’ highest waterfall, Limunsudan Falls - standing at 870 ft tall. Limunsudan Falls can be reached in 2 to 3 days trekking from the drop off point. It requires hard work, but for people who are outdoorsy and nature enthusiasts, the route to the falls will definitely be a piece of cake.
However, the sight of the falls' two tiered magnificence will only make all the bumps and scrapes well worth it. I've been told it's truly a trekker's delight. Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better. ---Albert Einstein
There are other Iligan waterfalls located in Barangay Rogongon; unfortunately, getting to them is even more difficult because the falls can only be reached through rough roads and are located deep in the mountains; they are: Guimbalolan Falls, Kamadahan Falls, Pindarangahan Falls, Gata Falls, Kibalang Falls, Rogongon Falls.
Care To Bathe With the Nymphs?
Do you remember growing up in the Philippines; you always hear stories about this and about that. Sure, you've heard of stories and certain myths that nature nymphs bathe in the lagoon at the base of every waterfall. Well, I have a confession to make, I never learn how to swim - for that very reason.
They say swimming on one of Iligan waterfalls will give you a chance to swim with the nymphs - imagine that - bathing with the nymphs.
As well known, there are 20 plus waterfalls right at the heart of Iligan, but only six are quite accessible and safe for bathing.
The first and most popular is the Tinago (hidden) Falls. Located 13 km off the city in Barangay Ditucalan.
A jeepney ride to Tinago is not difficult to get. The first 8 km of the ride is on paved road; the remaining 5 km is unpaved. At the drop off point, you will have to walk downhill, going down the over 300 steps down to the bottom of the falls and swimming is allowed.
