  • Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport also known as Manila International Airport
  • Mactan Airport in Cebu

One of these airports would be your gateway to the Philippines.

Both airports provide prompt service and transportation to your connecting flights. If you have an overnight layover in either of these airports, local taxis and jeepneys are easily accesible to take you to your hotel.

When booking, know which gateway you want to go. This will make your search for cheap tickets to the Philippines easier.

Most of these flights start from US major cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. This is because large concentrations of Filipinos live in these areas.

By Land - from Cagayan de Oro to Iligan

If you are taking this route, you change planes at the Manila International Airport. You would go from the International to the domestic side of the airport.

They are building a new airport between Iligan and Cagayan de Oro to serve both neighboring cities. It is going to be bigger and accessible to all. So far, it is scheduled to open in 2012. For more updates check back here often.

When you arrive in Cagayan de Oro, taxis and jeepneys are plentiful. No shortage here.

While the bus is certainly the cheapest option, it is a bit of a hassle. To start, you need to take a taxi or jeepney to the Cagayan de Oro Bulua Bus terminal.

Then you need to catch a bus heading for Iligan with your luggage in tow. It’s not really the best way to end your journey after many hours in flight.

Remember, this final leg of travel to Iligan will take another one and a half hours. So we highly recommend taking the taxi – it’s just so much easier!

You want to rest up a bit before you meet all your family and friends. Besides, the typical taxi fare is only about 300 pesos and any more than that is high.

We hope you enjoy the ride and don’t forget --- take pictures along the way.
